Post GenCon Report Part 3 – The Other Stuff

So what else happened at GenCon.

Show Floor.

For the last few years, it seems that no matter how much bigger they make the show floor, it just seems to keep getting busier and busier. The art show was awesome as usual and I brought home some Star Wars and Iron Man prints. On Sunday I got to demo the new Star Wars Armada game from Fantasy Flight. Great game, exceptional miniatures, but could they please use the same dice as one of their other games – come on man.

Besides the art I picked up an expansion for King of New York, and a bunch of extras for Savage Worlds.

Hotel.

The entire group stayed at the Homewood Suites. Excellent service and the free breakfast is one of the best. However, all the games that I ran were in the JW Marriott which is about as far away as possible. I hated that walk by Friday. The JW has great food and the restaurant there isn’t normally busy.

Kickstarter.

I picked up three Kickstarter products from vendors on the show floor. Two map sets from Gaming Paper – Mega Dungeon three and a new map set from Christopher West (mapsofmastery.com). The other was a journal/scrapbook from ConQuest/One Less Nemesis. Really cool idea and even impressed my wife.

Group.

Largest group so far – ten people. First time we have had two “kids”. Not sure how many will be there next year, but I think everyone had a ton of fun.

Scotch.

Four bottles of Scotch (three single malt and one of bourbon) were finished off by Saturday night.
