Standard Character Sheets and Packages

PCs for the Star Wars (and Starship Trooper for that matter) GenCon games are similar enough that there will be some overlap on the character sheets. Two areas stand out, skills/hindrances, and equipment.

For Hindrances, each PC will likely have some loyalty or obligation to the Rebellion, and perhaps something like orders. BEcause there are only a few hindrances per PC, I will likely leave that on the individual sheets.

Equipment is another matter. Because they are a military style group, there will be some standardized armor and weapons, plus electronics and other equipment (similar to the Stormtrooper utility belt). In cases like this it can be a tossup whether it is better to leave on the sheet or just leave a note and put on something separate. In the last playtest, I moved it off the basic character sheet to the basic game information sheet. I’m not sure this works well for Savage Worlds. The basic character sheet is very compact and can be used as a table tent/card holder (one of the reasons I like this game – simplicity). In previous games, mostly d20 Star Wars Saga, I left the name of a piece of equipment or feat on the character sheet, and then put the explanation on a separate sheet. This was done to both save space, after 5 levels there were a lot of different little fiddly bits per character, and to centralize to-hit modifiers, even more options per weapon.

Savage Worlds doesn’t have as many bits, so I may just leave them on the sheets for the next playtest. More typing for me, but hopefully only once.

One thing that I learned from a previous GenCon, is to put the combat maneuvers on the opposite side of the character sheet. It helped me keep combat flowing, and is also a good reference to other more “fun” maneuvers PCs can try – like Wild Attack, and Called Shots.

As a first example, I have attached the Leader PC basic character sheet. No fluff, just crunch. It provides the best basic view of the standard equipment. Almost all the other PCs will be a variation on this basic template.
